Earlier in the week, I talked about really wanting to be rid of this big bambucha yarn, and I finally did it. I finished it. It was supposed to be a nice, fluffy blankie to keep my family member warm, only things didn’t go quite as planned.

You see, I’d been doing really great crocheting this back in December. But then I got fatigued and let it sit until the last minute.

My early December work.

Looks fine, right? It was totally going so well. Fast-forward to Wednesday, and I’m crocheting like a madwoman to finish. I ran out of the light gray first. No biggie, I figured. I’ll just have two skinny stripes at the bottom. But then my black stripe was a lot skinnier than the skinny gray. And then I noticed that, in my haste, I’d been accidentally adding a stitch to each end by double-crocheting into my chain’s base.

The result…

Oh for hook’s sake.

It’s a skirt. Or a bell! A BELLankie. <facepalm>

Deceptively normal-looking…

Anyway, it’s done, and folded up, it looks totally fine. It should still do the job. It’s embarrassing, but probably only to me, and I guess its hammerhead-shark end also gives it personality. And so, I’ve dubbed it the Wabi-sablankie. May it keep my fam warm in our very short Honolulu cold season.
